TC11 - Metrological Infrastructures - About

IMEKO TC11 was reanimated in 1994 after the work of the former TC11 "Metrological Requirements for Developing Countries", founded in 1976, had come to a standstill.

After his appointment, in 1994, the new chairman of TC11 called a meeting in Braunschweig, Germany. At this meeting the TC11 members decided to rename TC11 and to define new activities. These changes reflect the need for information and know-how as specified within the scope of work not only in developing countries but also in countries in transition to market economy and in new countries.

To reach its objectives, TC11 maintains contacts to relevant international and regional organizations, organizes Round Tables during IMEKO World Congresses and contributes to international conferences through lectures and posters.

Attempt at a definition of "Metrological Infrastructure":
All facilities of an organization, a country or a region with regard to measurement, calibration and verification services, to national or regional metrology institutes and laboratories, to the accreditation of calibration laboratories and to the operation and administration of the organizational, national or regional metrology systems and its links to international organizations.

IMEKO TC11 has about 15 members from various countries.
